The keynote speaker at the luncheon was one of the women interviewed by Ruth for her research. Andrea Sullivan is Head of Corporate Philanthropy and Cultural Partnerships for Europe and the Middle East at Lehman Brothers. She spoke about her career journey both professionally and personally. Andrea mentioned that women tend not to have linear careers and are sometimes needlessly ashamed about it. She also stressed the importance of women’s networks in corporations: “They help women to feel part of the company they work for.”

The Global Cities luncheon was sponsored by Stargate’s Trapezia Fund  http://www.trapeziacapital.co.uk , the UK’s first venture capital program specialised in backing women-focused businesses.  Women in Europe make 70% of household spending decisions. Ten million of them are self-employed or run their own business. In spite of this, less than 2.5% from a total of Euro 3.5 billion of venture capital funding in the UK and Europe goes to companies with a woman CEO.

The event was co-hosted by one of TIAW’s most committed members, Women in Banking and Finance http://www.wibf.org.uk , a leading networking group aimed to provide support and encouragement to members in their professional life.
