Marsha was President of TIAW in 1993 and again in 1995, and served on the Board of Directors from 1988 to 2002. For many years she co-chaired TIAW's “Women on Boards” initiative and was Vice-President for Programs. In addition, showing her dedication to her industry and to professional woman and their organizations, she served as APIW President from 1988 to 1990, and as member of the APIW Board from 1986 to 1992. Founded in 1976, APIW works for the advancement of professional insurance women and the recognition of their contributions to the industry. It has over 300 members who are successful professionals in the insurance industry. The annual APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in the insurance industry. Marsha's career makes clear that she has earned this prominence, and this award. She is recognized for her exemplary professionalism and is highly respected both within her organization and the whole insurance industry. Marsha is Senior Vice President, State Relations, and Director of Education of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA). The RAA is a non-profit trade association committed to an agenda that represents the interests of reinsurance professionals across the United States. In her position, Marsha has responsibility for both state relations and education. She represents the reinsurance underwriting members before the 50 States' regulatory and legislative bodies, and also is responsible for educational seminars and conferences on reinsurance issues for the regulatory community and the industry.
Marsha has rocketed through her career from her start as a claims assistant, through treaty analyst and assistant secretary at various insurance companies, to Assistant Vice President and Corporate Secretary at Royal Re/American Royal Re (the position she left to join RAA in 1992).
This is not Marsha's first honor from her industry. In 2002, Business Insurance named her one of the 100 Leading Women in Insurance. In 2000, she was chosen as the APIW nominee for the New York Women's Agenda 2000 Galaxy Women of the Future Award.
TIAW congratulates Marsha, both for her successful career and the remarkable example she provides for all professional women. Most especially, of course, we recognize and thank her for all she has contributed to TIAW and its members over the years, and we send her our best wishes and cheers on this wonderful occasion!
