Economic empowerment as defined by TIAW means contributing to the ability of women to earn a living or in some way directly contributing to the economic betterment of other women, as distinct from other worthy contributions that are not within the scope of these awards.

Nominations for the 2025 Awards will open 08 March 2025 – if you know an amazing woman (or man) who has worked to empower women through improving their financial opportunities please nominate them after that date. Nominations received before the opening date will not be processed.

It starts with you.

Some 68% of people aged between 14-35 in Port Moresby are unemployed.

This is made worse by the high rate of school drop-outs – less than one-third of Grade 12 students continue to further education – in a context where 58% of PNG’s population is under the age of 25. Moreover, girls are less likely to complete formal education due to cultural barriers, which can have lifelong consequences impacting their ability to gain workplace experiences and ultimately restricting their ability to obtain higher-earning employment.

Right now, TIAW is partnering with CUFA’s ‘Gender Potential Unlimited’ project in Papua New Guinea which will engage female school leavers from Year 10 and above to develop the job-ready skills necessary for a successful transition from school to work. Specifically, TIAW will fund workshops within this program that provide training in Financial Literacy and Micro- Enterprise Development.

Your donation will empower these young women – and change their world.
